Nuh, Oct 16: Shahid alias Advani, who died following a police encounter in Sohna, Gurugram, on October 15, was named in 70 criminal cases registered across Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, including murder, rape, eight attempted murders and nine robberies, a Nuh Police spokesperson said on Friday.
According to the spokesperson, a review of police records revealed an extensive criminal history involving several serious offences, including kidnapping, robbery, theft, house-breaking, extortion and attacks on public servants.
Shahid, a resident of Kharkhari village under the Sadar Tauru police station limits in Nuh district, sustained injuries during a police encounter at Silani village in the Sohna police station area on the morning of October 15. He subsequently died.
Police records examined so far show that Shahid was named in one murder case, one rape case, one kidnapping case, eight attempted murder cases, nine robbery cases and one attempted robbery case. The records also list 14 theft cases and 14 house-breaking cases, taking the total in these specified categories to 49.
The remaining cases reportedly involve offences under the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, the Gangster Act and the Arms Act, along with allegations of extortion, assault on a government employee, escape from custody, causing hurt and violations of the Prison Act.
"Police records examined so far have revealed 70 criminal cases linked to Shahid alias Advani across three states. The current legal status of each case is being verified," the spokesperson said.
Police records also contain references to Shahid being declared a proclaimed offender. However, these entries are being cross-checked against individual case files and court records, the spokesperson added.
Nuh Police has initiated a detailed verification exercise in coordination with the relevant authorities in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to establish the precise status of the cases.
The exercise includes examining court proceedings, identifying cases that remain under investigation or trial, and verifying details of other accused named in the respective cases.
Police clarified that the compilation reflects criminal cases registered against Shahid and should not be interpreted as confirmation of convictions in all the cases.
"The objective is to prepare an accurate and consolidated record of his criminal history, including the status of pending proceedings and details of co-accused," the spokesperson said.
Further verification of records across the three states is underway, police added.
